Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Mp3 Conversion Question

mp3 is below par with most audiophiles for audio quality
which most uploaders are.during the mp3 conversion lots
of musical information is lost in the compression.they
just want to keep the integrity of best audio intact.the
main reason is to keep mp3 files out of the trading gene
pool which i agree with.for personal use for your ipod
and such it's not a problem but just don't trade in mp3.
most people can't discern between the two but most of
those people don't listen through a hi-fi system anymore
which is a shamePhotobucketthe actual wave file is vastly superior over mp3 when playing through a nice stereo system.
if you got a nice system or even a high end audio card
along with speakers for your computer stick with wave files
or flac/shn.if you just listen with your ipod,in your car or
on a low end audio computer system mp3 is fine but just
don't trade mp3 files, studies are coming back on how mp3
files lose bits of information when you make a copy of a
copy of a mp3 file.that would be an equivalent of a tenth
generation tape getting passed around if you can recall
those days and no need for that in today's technology.
anyway choose the format that best suites your needs and
enjoy the tunes Photobucketjust don't trade mp3 files.

Thanks much to everyone that gave explanations on my question.
I have a much better grasp on what's going on now.
